With the launch of Truck Label, Euro NCAP is taking a critical step towards improving road safety and reducing the number of accidents involving heavy vehicles, by expanding its testing program to include heavy trucks. AstaZero is proud to have contributed to this effort, both directly to the test method design and through a collection of benchmark data on current trucks’ performance levels.
Trucks have some special requirements on a proving ground, for example, weight ratings for roads and acceleration distances. AstaZero proving ground is designed from the outset to accommodate these special requirements and we have been hosting truck testing since the opening. With this heritage in place, we are looking forward to an even larger contribution to traffic safety for trucks in the future.
AstaZero’s testing facility is uniquely equipped to test heavy vehicles and has evaluated and conducted tests on various scenarios, ensuring that testing is up-to-date and accurate.
AstaZero has evaluated and conducted tests on various scenarios, including Car-to-Pedestrian Longitudinal Adult (CPLA-50 and CPLA-25), Car-to-Bicyclist Longitudinal Adult (CBLA-50), Car-to-Pedestrian Nearside Child (CPNC-50), Car-to-Pedestrian Farside Adult (CPFA-50), Car-to-Pedestrian Nearside Adult (CPNA-25 and CPNA-75), and Car-to-Bicyclist Nearside Adult (CBNA-50).
Testing heavy vehicles comes with specific requirements, such as weight ratings for roads and acceleration distances, which AstaZero proving ground is designed to accommodate. The facility has been hosting truck testing since its opening, making it an ideal candidate for testing heavy vehicles under the Euro NCAP program.
Initially, Euro NCAP will focus on testing auto brakes, course control, and other driver support systems, with crash tests to be conducted in 2030. Certified test labs in Europe, including AstaZero, will conduct the tests to ensure that heavy vehicles are tested to the highest safety standards.
Peter Janevik, CEO at AstaZero, said, “We are committed to promoting road safety and will continue to work closely with Euro NCAP to ensure that heavy vehicles are tested to the highest safety standards. We are proud to have contributed to this important initiative, and we look forward to continuing to be a part of the ongoing development of safety testing programs for all types of vehicles.”
In conclusion, AstaZero’s contribution to the Euro NCAP’s road safety collaboration expansion will help improve road safety for heavy vehicles. This move will promote safer roads, reduce accidents, and save lives. AstaZero commitment to safety testing and collaboration with Euro NCAP highlights the importance of prioritizing road safety and ensuring all vehicles meet the highest safety standards.
As one of the founders of Euro NCAP, the Swedish Transport Administration has been instrumental in developing testing methods and conducting practical tests on heavy vehicles.
